I am Muralee Thummarukudy. I work for the United Nations Environment Programme. Currently I am based in Kochi, India. Advising on Environmental Issues related to Conflicts and Disasters is my primary job. In pursuit of this task, I go to places which have just been impacted by conflicts or disasters. |
I started the webpage as a way of sharing my thoughts with my friends and family. In due course, the circle widened. Many people stumbled upon my site googling for something or the other. Many people took time to give me feedback and some of them are my good friends now.
In this page I write very little about what I do in my workplace. The page is more about my thoughts and experiences on matters outside the workplace. However my job gives me opportunity travel to places where normal people rarely go. I get to meet the type of people whom ordinary people don’t get chance to meet. I witness tragedies, the scales of which is beyond comprehension of most people. |
So while I don’t write about what I do, my work enriches me and hence contributes to my writing.

It is my dream to become a fulltime writer one day. By that I mean somebody who can earn their bread from writing alone. I am not there yet, but I hope to be there one day.
|
In the meanwhile, I write with a view to share my thoughts but also gather feedback on what I write and how I write it. So it will help me enormously if those of you who read my articles spare a minute and let me have your thoughts. My writings have improved vastly due to the suggestions which I received through the website. My confidence has also been boosted significantly from the number of people who took time to give me feedback.

I have promised an upgrade in two months and one month has almost passed. We have made some progress in concept but not in practice. I am meanwhile not spending time updating the page.
However, one of my previous post looked so topical in the context of the boat accident that I thought I should put up on the home page, it makes very sad reading thinking of all those people who could still be alive if only ....
